Ah, Malaga - the birthplace of Spain's most famous painter Picasso, and er, Antonio Banderas to boot… But more importantly it's got cool bars, Michelin-starred restaurants and very swanky shopping. Viva Malaga!

Malaga

Get cultured… by browsing the Malaga Wine Museum for its impressive stock of national and local reds. Sample some superfine vino then tuck into the delicious traditional lunch that's also on offer. Calle San Sebastián, Mijas. Tel: 952 48 63 67.

Shop till you drop and head to the Sunday morning flea market near the Estadio de la Rosaleda. Buy vintage clothes, cool knick knacks and unique one-offs to take home with you.

Sip a sunset mojito by the Med at terrace-fronted bars in the Pedregalejo district, and watch the beautiful people go by…

Then dine in style at the Michelin-starred Café de Paris (Calle Vélez Málaga 8, 952 225 043) - the langoustine is their speciality. Or try classy eaterie Adolfo on Paseo Marítimo Picasso in La Malagueta.

End up at any of the cool bars along La Malagueta. Or, if you really want to blow the budget, try Saloma on Calle De Luis de Velázquez. Make it past the strict bouncers at the door, you'll find yourself in the coolest bar in Malaga with excellent DJs and serious cocktails.

And if that's not enough… There's also the summer Feria - a week-long mini-carnival - in August. So, grab a bottle of the finest local cava and get into the fiesta spirit!
