With orange-tree lined squares and a picture perfect location, Faro has turned itself into a very cool European city. Check out this chic side of Portugal.

Faro

Don't miss out on sightseeing. Visit the enormous Roman-Gothic cathedral on Largo da Sé. Climb the stairs in the clock tower for an amazing view of the town.

Treat yourself to dinner at Ibn Harun. This restaurant has got a cool and inspiring room around a large dining-room, and serves traditional Portuguese tucker ( Rua do Repouso 1 Phone: +351 289 824 839). Or even Monte Do Casal, the place-to-be-seen restaurant at the boutique hotel of the same name (www.montedocasal.pt).

Then shake your booty at T-clube; it's a jet-set favourite. This sophisticated gaff is geared mainly to the rich and beautiful. Tip: Avoid trainers and dress to impress. (Av. Brasilia, Ed. Espelho dÁgua)

Spend your Euros at the Praça Ferreira de Almeida market place where you'll find Faro's best wine shop, Garrafeira Rui. It also does a good range of local sausages, cheeses and delicacies.

Rest your head at the Casa de Estoi. This small boutique hotel is a mix of modern and traditional Portuguese style. Sit back on sun loungers or take a dip in the heated pool. (Rua de Faro, nº80 , 8005 - 463 Estoi)

Take the ferry east to Ilha Deserta, a beautiful uninhabited island with just the one restaurant on it (Restaurante O Estaminé Tel: 917811856). If you want to lunch here book a table before, or as soon as you arrive in Faro! The beach is simply stunning.
